There has been more than one occasion when I have found myself in deep research over days in trying to find out some minor details of some aspect of photography. These aspects, even though mionor, play a important role in capturing the picture right. For example when I first put my hands on a digital camera I was a little uncomfortable with the White Balance. So I started my research on White Balance till I fully understood what it was and how could I benefit from it in my photography. Later I set to find out the relationship between the focal length and the aperture, the mathematical calculation between the focal length and the aperture with respect to the amount of light coming in. Right now I am trying to get an understanding about the MTF charts and how to interpret the chart. I believe that understanding and interpreting the chart is the only way of numerically expressing the performance of the lens and would play a big role in deciding upon a lens. Over a period of time I have tried to find out the details of many such things. Here I am presenting some of the things which I found out, hoping it would help someone in some way. Update Dec-13-2005. I have finished the article on MTF chart and I am including it here |
